Your Romantic Image: Dressing for Romance

wpe1F.jpg (9278 bytes)Embracing all the positive elements of romance means to incorporate aspects of romance into your daily life. As a romance author, take the opportunity to highlight the romantic side of your personality. One way to do this is to literally dress the part. Create an image of romance by what you wear.

Dressing for Romance

Take a moment and consider what type of clothes makes you feel attractive and romantic. Everything from cotton to silk can create a romantic image. What is important is that you are neatly attired, exude a pleasant scent, and are always ready to display your finest smile and positive personality.

If you haven’t discovered your unique style, explore the options of what can make you feel romantic. What type of style suits your personality?

Sophisticated and sultry

Playful and airy

The "girl next door"

Artsy

As a romance writer, it is taken for granted that you are romantic at heart and like to indulge in everything romantic. Consider adding a romantic flavor to your personal image by what you wear.

To Be Glamorous or Not To Be

In general, your readers are buying your books because they like your writing style and the stories you have to tell. However, when wpe25.jpg (7754 bytes)your readers meet you in "real life," deep down they can't help but compare you with the photograph they have seen on your book jacket or web-site.

As a writer, you want readers to be focused on your work, not discussing how different you look from your photograph. Here are some tips you should consider with the photograph you use on your bookjacket, web-site and other promotional materials.

Glamour Photos: A glamour photograph can be a lot of fun to do, not to mention how beautiful you can appear in the final product. A word of caution: if you opt to use a glamorous photograph in your material, please don't show up to your booksigning and appearances like you are dropping the kids off to school or running errands.

You don't have to dress fancy for your appearances, but simply be mindful of your overall romantic image. Since you are selling your book, a product, you are representing that product. Authors should make it a standard practice not to be dressed less casual than "business casual." If you wish to be a little dressier, that's okay.

The point is if you choose to utilize a "glamour shot" for your formal photograph, take the time to reflect your romantic image in what you choose to wear at your appearances.
