"Wisconsin: Sky & Rolling Hills"

On a recent road trip to northwestern Wisconsin (May 2005), I was humbled by the ever changing sky and lovely countryside.  The trees had not yet fully leafed out, but we experienced our share of rain, blue sky, rain, overcast sky.

For anyone who has visited northern Wisconsin in the late spring, you know the weather can be unpredictable.  Yet, it was this varied unpredictability that invited the most compelling vistas during our trip.

As a photographer, I was surprised at the excitement I experienced identifying subject matter.  The colors and quick changing sky made for an adventurous trip.  When I returned to the urban byways, I had a deeper appreciation for Mother Nature.

Mother Nature indeed endeavors to provide variety in the life of her worldly dwellers.

The Drive Up - The Sky

We began our drive at about 8:30 a.m.  The weather was encouraging, providing us rich blue sky.  Check out this luscious sky!

Predictably, we were warned of more inclement weather.  Certainly, the sky once again became a vision of diversity.

Along the way, the vision of farms, cows, horses, and open country abound.  It really made for a tranquil drive. Plus, it reminded me that as a photographer, it's important to notice everything, even the subjects right under our nose.

The storm!  Check out the cloud that appears to be nearly sitting on the road at the horizon.  Very cool photograph. The photo on the right was taken as we approached the storm.

The storm breaks!

The thumbnail below provides another photo of the breaking storm.  The cloud formations are marvelous. As you can see, I captured the photo so only the sky if the subject.
