Quotes & Poetry

William Shakespeare

"Love comforteth like sunshine after rain."
--William Shakespeare

The emotion of love can be found in the plays, sonnets, poems, and quotations through the centuries.  William Shakespeare sprinkled his work with words of love.

Who Was William Shakespeare?

(b. April 26, 1564 d. April 23, 1616)

William Shakespeare was an English poet, dramatist, and actor.  A man of intelligence and keen insights, his work touched upon human emotions and conflict.  Although Shakespeare's plays were written in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, his work is still performed and read throughout the world of the twenty-first century.

Sonnet

Live with me and be my love,
And we will all the pleasures prove.
That hills and valleys, dales* and fields,
And all the craggy mountains yields.

*another word for valley

Excerpt from As You Like It

Hereafter, in a better world than this,
I shall desire more love and knowledge of you.

Excerpt from Twelfth Night

Love sought is good, but giv'n unsought is better.

Excerpt from Twelfth Night (Song)

What is love?  'Tis not hereafter;
Present mirth hath present laughter;
What's to come is still unsure.
In delay there lies no plenty,
Then come kiss me, sweet and twenty;
Youth's a stuff will not endure.

Excerpt from Romeo and Juliet

With love's light wings did I o'er-perch these walls;
For stony limits cannot hold love out,
And what love can do that dares love attempt.

(Scene where Romeo comes to Juliet - the famous scene of "O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?")
