What Time is It?
Pedestal clocks from Germany had been around since the 16th century. It wasn’t until the long pendulum clock was introduced in the 1700s that some accuracy was brought to clocks. These clocks became known as "tall case" clocks. Up until this time, residents in a town or city relied on the clock hanging in town, typically at the church steeple. The old-fashioned way of determining time via sundials, hourglass, or simply
viewing the duration of the sun (longer in summer, shorter in winter) was to be
replaced by the ever improving clock.
