"The Grand Canyon"

Grand Canyon 6.jpg (83092 bytes)The one drawback to photography is that sometimes it simply can not capture the subject.  The Grand Canyon is one such subject.

The majestic grandeur of this natural beauty takes away your breath.  For anyone who has visited the Grand Canyon, you will appreciate my next statement.  When gazing across to the other side of the canyon, it almost appears artificial.   That is, like a painted backdrop on a stage.  The vastness of the scene captures your imagination.

I visited the Grand Canyon on a September afternoon.  The sky was a sapphire blue accented with puffy clouds that reminded me of cotton balls dangling on a string from the heavens.  I took both landscape photos (shown below) and close up photos to capture the detail of small beauties of the Grand Canyon.

There are numerous wonders to visit throughout the world.  The Grand Canyon is one such place you should visit.  It is in such a location that we consider our place in the world.  The canyons existed before us and will continue long beyond.  Because of photography, I was able to capture my unique moment with one of Nature's magnificent creations.

Grand Canyon 1.jpg (82578 bytes)
I was struck by the contrast of shadows, colors and textures.  The site was absolutely a smorgasbord for the eyes!

Grand Canyon 2.jpg (76518 bytes)
The trees at a distance looked like small twigs.  It is difficult to gain visual perspective when viewing the canyon.

Grand Canyon 3.jpg (78428 bytes)
The rough, jagged edges and deep caverns made me think of a sculpture's hand and tool that had chiseled away at the rock face.

Grand Canyon 4.jpg (69620 bytes)
The shadow cast on the canyon in the middle of the photograph are from the clouds.  While gazing into the canyon, you can observe the movement of clouds by the shadow they cast.  The shadow glides over the canyon like black water.

Grand Canyon 7.jpg (76729 bytes)
I loved the "red rock".  Once again, the contrast in color and texture was so unique.  As a resident of the Midwest, I'm accustomed to the green fields of waving corn, soft green grass in the summer, and rich emerald leaves after a July rainstorm.

Grand Canyon 8.jpg (91695 bytes)
Bus was my transportation to the Grand Canyon.  I was awarded the opportunity of looking, looking, looking!

Grand Canyon 5.jpg (80998 bytes)

I snapped a photo of the Grand Canyon train.

Grand Canyon 9.jpg (82172 bytes)
Once again, the marvelous "red rock" that is gorgeous against a blue sky.  When I viewed this photo later, I noted the small subject at the bottom left of the photo.  The individual provides terrific perspective to the size of my primary subject!
