Thought of the Week: March 2, 2003

The month of March seemed an appropriate time to address the topic of "The Gift of Giving."  With springtime, weddings, and other activities that accompanying the months ahead, giving is certainly a part of our daily life.

The True Meaning of "Giving"

The act of "giving" is to voluntarily present someone with a gift.  In the ideal world, giving is done with an open heart in the anticipation of bringing someone else happiness.

We also need to consider that a gift need not be restricted to a monetary or tangible object.  The Gift of Giving can also be presented in the time you designate to a purpose or individual.

The "Giving" In Your Life

Take a moment and reflect upon the giving you do in your daily life.  If you are a wife and mother, your day-to-day tasks are all about giving, i.e., caring for your family and home.  If you are a single professional, you give to staff by how you interact with them every day.

Areas of "Giving"

There are 3 types of giving that you can experience.

Volunteering
Monetary Donation
Thoughtful selection of a tangible gift

Over the next few weeks, we will address the three types of giving.  Certainly, the Gift of Giving gives us a feeling of warm satisfaction when the day is complete.  We may consider "giving" our highest duty as men and women in a world that sometimes seems run amuck!
