Historical Romance Column

Final Thoughts

These books point out some of the strengths of Southern women. Prior to the Civil War, some may have only known the stereotype of the "Southern Belle"; perceived as pampered, proper and accustomed to enjoying the finer lifestyle of the South. However, in the onslaught of the war, the admirable qualities and fortitude of the Southern woman was exhibited.

There is so much information available on the Civil War. If you would like additional references on topics related to the Civil War, I would be happy to recommend books I have found most helpful. Please feel free to send me an e-mail.

In our next installment, we will discuss three books. The first will be One Wore Gray about Jesse’s brother, Daniel and Callie, a Union widow. The second book is Glory, the story of Ian’s brother, Julian, and his relationship with Rhiannon. The last book, Triumph, covers how Tia, Ian’s and Julian’s sister, falls in love with a Yankee named Taylor Douglas. In addition, I will discuss several other books whereby the lives and relationships of the characters were influenced by the aftermath of the Civil War.
