The Civil War:  A Re-enactment II
(The Battle)

confederatecannon.JPG (18521 bytes)The boom of the cannon echoed loudly across the field.  Although we were standing on the other side of the field of battle, the power of the weapon reverberated through your body.

The battle was set as follows:  the Confederates held the fort and the Union soldiers were determined to take it.  (At the re-enactments, each side takes turns at winning a battle).

Union troops stormed the fort.  Smoke from the rifle fire covered the battlefield in a mist. During true battle, it was amazing that the soldiers on either side could see anything.  The pounding of cannon, the dense fog of smoke, and the cries of the wounded must have been an overwhelming experience to endure.
