The American Dollar
The English spelling for "Dollar" actually came from the word "Taler", which is German. The Taler was first issued in 1519 and was comprised of silver. It's interesting to note that American colonists attributed the word "Dollar" to the Spanish peso. When the United States decided to create a currency system in 1792, it used the "Dollar" as the primary monetary unit in currency.
