Thought of the Week: September 29, 2002

"Anything worth doing is worth doing well."
Lord Chesterfield, October 9, 1746

"Anything worth doing is worth doing well" is a proverb that can be traced back to Lord Chesterfield.  He wrote these words in a letter dated October 9, 1746.  It is interesting to note that this proverb is one of the most common of the 479 American proverbs.

Variations on the Proverb

This proverb has a wide selection of variations on the theme.  Here are a few examples of the variations--

"If a thing is worth doing, it's worth doing well"
"If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well"
"Anything not worth doing is worth not doing well."

Accomplishing a Task

The proverb can certainly be taken to heart when we strive to complete a task.  Isn't it better to forge ahead, doing the best job we can, and be satisfied with a job well done.  Certainly!

Remember to move ahead with determination and persistence.  No matter what size the task, we can accomplish it with the right resources, a little sweat, and gumption.
