Pre-prep for
Your Booksignings
STEP #3: The Bookseller & Your Books The bookseller, of course, is a critical cog in the wheel of ensuring you have a successful booksigning experience. Books on the Shelves Pre-prep is important when it comes to the bookseller that is hosting your booksigning. Make sure the bookseller has copies of your books available on the date of your booksigning. Nothing can be more distressing to an author ready to sell books than having low book stock available for sale.
It is in your best interest to obtain a contact name of the bookseller who will be overseeing your booksigning. At local booksignings, many authors have established relationships with their local booksellers. However, if you are traveling outside your hometown, it's helpful to have a contact name when you show up at the bookstore or event. Know Where You're Going When you speak with the bookseller, make sure and obtain clear directions to the event. If you are working from a schedule prepared for you, double check your package to ensure that directions are clearly provided. Experienced authors know to anticipate the worst and not be caught unawares. Taking that one extra step to make sure of your booksigning location will save your nerves. Imagine this nightmare... You’re running late. You can’t find the event location. You’re scheduled to begin in fifteen minutes. This is the scenario that could keep you up at night! If possible, speaking with the bookseller prior to your booksigning also allows you to clarify other particulars about the event: *Where in the store is the booksigning held? *If you need audio or computer equipment, is it available? *Do you need to sign books before the booksigning? Plan on arriving at least 30 minutes prior to your presentation. In this way, you have the opportunity to leisurely meet the bookseller, settle your materials in the booksigning location within the store, and help yourself to a refreshment, if available. Make sure you are settled in the booksigning area at least 10 or 15 minutes before it is to begin. These precious moments give you a chance to meet your guests. Again, making a personal connection with your readers helps build loyalty. In addition, it's just plain fun to get to know your readers! ____________________________
