Enter: Abstract Expressionism Painting With regard to my painting, I have discovered that I appreciate the unique perspective that abstract painting offers as a medium of self-expression. It utilizes a strategy of simplification of detail through color, shape, and dimension. Depending on the perspective of the viewer, the piece can appear ambiguous or undefined. Yet, in the abstract, the viewer can walk through their own experience instead of intuitively taking away my perspective of the piece. Certainly, there has been argument that the abstract style that began in the beginning of the 20th century may have developed an air of simplicity or quaintness. However, I believe abstract painting, despite being in a world of complexity and jaded attitudes, is still a powerful venue for an artist. Although abstract painting lends itself to various mediums, I have enjoyed working with watercolor and acrylic.
