A Time for New Beginnings:
Motivation When Facing the Mopes

Maintaining momentum when it comes to motivation can be difficult some times.  Despite the inherent natural positive energy that exists just in the word "motivation," keeping our eyes lifted to the ultimate goal doesn't always happen.

What can you do to stimulate your motivation when you're experiencing the mopes?  We have some thoughts for you to consider.

Make yourself think positive.  It is all too easy to slip into negative thinking.  Don't allow yourself to get trapped in the whirlpool of negative thinking.  You'll get dragged right down with it.  Always consider the good things that are going on in your life.

Mopes
The "mopes" can be defined as feeling lazy or discouraged. It all depends on your circumstance.

Open yourself to a change in routine.  Perhaps you are feeling in a rut.  Despite your goals, do you feel like it's the same routine every day.  Insert one different activity, thought, or reflection in your day.  Even if it's a small change, it's different from the routine.

Take a day off from your project goals.  Although it is terrific to be working towards your goals, periodically we need a break.  Give yourself permission to take a day off.  You will come back refreshed and with a new perspective.

Invest in some quiet time.  Your schedule is likely packed to the rim with activity.  However, it is important to steal a few minutes for yourself.  Carve out at least ten minutes from your day.

Value the day you've been given.  Too often we get wrapped up in the fast paced schedule of our life.  Stop and appreciate the day you've been given, for tomorrow is promised to no one.

Anticipate set backs.  Don't be discouraged if you experience set backs.  No one is guaranteed a life's journey without set backs and discouragements.  Go with the flow and be ready to get back to work when the challenge passes.

Tell yourself tomorrow is a new day.  We all recall Scarlett O'Hara's closing line in the movie "Gone With the Wind."  It goes something like, "after all, tomorrow is another day."  The words ring true.  Today's errors are tomorrow's history.

Expect that everything will work out.  Time has a way of working out the kinks.  Incorporate this philosophy into your life and remain positive.

Motivate - A Sense of Purpose

There will be times when the mopes are going to interfere with our motivation to take action.  You have already identified your purpose and goals.  Remember not to get side tracked, but keep pushing forward.  Each day should be embraced and appreciated for those 24 hours is a precious gift.

Next Week!

Next week, we will cover the principle of "Craft of Communication."  There are several elements that comprise the craft of communication.  The first area we will address is verbal communication.
