Mothers & Babies

The photos of mothers with their babies, young children and siblings are of particular interest to some of us.  The youngsters represent the future, a hope for tomorrow and for dreams yet to be realized.

We hope you enjoy the selection of photos of people from the past, yet their legacy lives in the generations that follow.

This photograph is of Libbie and her daughter Elizabeth.  The baby was born on September 2, 1900.  Elizabeth was the first born, her sisters Bonnie and Flora (Bernice) being born in 1902 and 1905, respectively.  A daughter Margaret was born in 1909, but would die in infancy.

Note the long gown adorning baby Elizabeth.  The gown is finely trimmed with lace and three tiers of ribbon at the bottom of the garment.

The fine-boned features of Libbie can be seen in the photographs of her daughters as adults.

The identity of the woman and her precious child are lost to the past.  The warmth of a mother's unconditional love is evident as she gazes down at her child.

The gown worn by the infant is long, as the one above, however, you will note the gown is of a simpler design.  There is some lace that trims the hem of the garment.

The tilt of the mother's head does give us a wonderful example of the hair style worn at the turn of the century.  Long locks are twisted and knotted at the top of the head.
