Thought of the
Week: March 16, 2003
Whether you are contemplating providing a financial contribution to your local religious association, organizational fundraiser, or child's cookie/candy school fundraiser, review these three considerations when it comes to monetary donations. Consideration #1: Budget for Donations As much as we would like to help every needy cause, most of us simply do not have the "deep pockets" to do so. At the beginning of the year, sit down and include a set dollar amount in your budget for donations. When we have a specific amount set aside, we can keep track of monies spent. Consideration #2: Identify Event/Causes Categories Since you will be on a donation budget, identify the events/causes you will support for the year. You should first identify those organizations that you definitely wish to donate funds. The remainder of the funds can then be placed in "Miscellaneous" for donations as they occur. Another option for "Miscellaneous" funds would be to identify an organization or fundraiser that is of interest to you. There are many not-for-profit organizations that need the patronage of donation funds. Even the smallest donation is appreciated. Consideration #3: Consider Donating If Your Don't If you have never made a monetary donation to a fundraiser or cause in the past, think about doing so. You'll be glad to be a part of the monetary donation community.
