This was a detail I had not expected to find!  As you can see, the marker reads "Daughters of the American Revolution."

I am familiar with this organization, but was curious to know more about the "DAR".  I immediately found their website (www.dar.org).  It is definitely worth checking out!

The DAR was established in 1890.  The DAR is headquartered in Washington D.C. and has a museum, boasts some wonderful educational programs and other details of interest.

I stumbled across another fascinating find!

John Dudley, Sr." was born in 1758John Dudley Revolutionary War Soldier Fort Payne.JPG (65432 bytes) and served in the Revolutionary War.

The plaque was placed by the Fort Payne, Illinois chapter of the DAR.  For those not familiar with Illinois history, Fort Payne was a military fort located in Chicago.

You can find out more about Chicago history by visiting the Chicago Historical Society at www.chicagohs.org or www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org, their on-line encyclopedia.

Mina Ruth Ladies Auxiliary Veterans Foreign Wars.JPG (66540 bytes)Another marvelous detail!

Mina Ruth was a World War II veteran.  She was a nurse.  Her brother was also served in the war, but sadly was killed in combat.

The vividly blue flag with yellow caught my eye from across the cemetery.  The flag reads "Ladies Auxiliary/Veterans of Foreign Wars."

I visited the Ladies Auxiliary (VFW) at www.ladiesauxvfw.com.  Their national headquarters is located in Kansas City, Missouri.  A museum is located on the 4th floor, and the organization has been tracking women veteran history since September 14, 1914.
