The Pelican
Cove Inn
The main reason my husband and I chose to get into the B&B business was so I could stay home with our children. That in itself is the most enjoyable thing about being here. Now from the business side of it, the people are so wonderful! I would have to say that the people are what make this such a fun business to be in. Of course, owning a Bed and Breakfast, we are often the site of wedding proposals and celebrations of anniversaries and birthdays. It is always fun to help someone plan a special surprise for a loved one. The marriage proposals are so exciting. A Pelican Cove Inn It was fun to see one couple that was getting engaged. Both of the families knew about the proposal. He had rented a private balloon ride, and I had made reservations at a great restaurant in La Jolla for after the balloon ride. First, his parents called to see if they could put champagne and strawberries in the room. Then, his sister called and we put candles and bubble bath in the bathroom for her. Then, her parents called and wanted to do something for the couple. Running out of ideas, I suggested they call the restaurant and send wine to the table during their dinner. Well, they actually picked up the whole tab for the dinner. Imagine the surprise of the newly proposed "Bride to Be" in discovering that throughout the evening, everyone knew about the engagement and were so supportive of the event. This is one small example of how great people can be to one another! What is there to see and do when visiting Carlsbad? When visiting Carlsbad, the beach is always a big draw. Sea Carlsbad offers many There are lots of great restaurants and antique shops within walking distance. The little tea shop, Ticky Boo, is a fun way to spend some time. There is also the Carlsbad Mineral Spa or Skinsationals if you want to pamper yourself a little bit with a massage, pedicure or manicure. The Carlsbad Company Stores are upscale outlets that are a pleasure to visit. In the spring, the flower fields are in bloom right next to the Carlsbad Company Stores and the fields are a site to behold! We also have two street fairs every year: the first Sunday of every November and the first Sunday of every May. There is also a great Web-site by the Carlsbad Convention and Visitors Bureau that has a community events section that is always updated. Their Web-site is www.carlsbadca.org.As you serve breakfast to your guests, what have been your most popular selections? The Scotch Eggs (eggs wrapped in sausage and baked) or the Peach Stuffed French Toast (baked dish stuffed with cream cheese and peaches) are probably the most popular dishes. The Artichoke Quiche and Decadent French Toast Souffle are also dishes I am asked to share the recipe for on a regular basis. How far ahead of time should guests make their reservations? Guests should call to reserve from 4-6 weeks in advance in the summer and 2-4 weeks in advance during the rest of the year. Holidays are the exception and should be booked as far in advance as possible.
