The action! While any good story has action, a suspense has to move at a faster pace. This suits my writing style really well--I tend to write shorter sentences. As I have read back over the galleys and done editing, I've worked at slowing some scenes down, but the overall pace of the book just flies along and I hope readers will enjoy that aspect of the novel. In your opinion, what makes your hero and heroine (Jake and Celeste) work so well together in the story? Even though they ultimately fall in love, they start out as friends. Since my husband and I were friends before we started dating, I understand the dynamics of that type of relationship and I'm sure it probably shines through in the storyline. I also tried to convey that, even if the romance dies, Jake and Celeste will always be friends. There is a comfort in that thought and of course they'll make it as a couple because they care so much about each other already. Celeste's father discovering the code to a fountain of youth formula is creative. What gave you the idea? My oldest daughter is a real history buff. When we visited Florida last time, we did some reading about Ponce de Leon and the Fountain of Youth. I also teach for a school that housed a kooky scientist at one point (he didn't do this type of research though--completely unrelated) The thoughts kept bouncing around in my brain along with this new character--a kooky, modern-day scientist who wanted to discover the secret to youth. Unfortunately, my kooky scientist dies in the first scene of the book, but we get to know him really well through his daughter Celeste and his protege Jake.
