Travel - In Your Backyard

"A Glimpse of the Past: Kline Creek Farm"
Winfield, Illinois
http://www.dupageforest.com/EDUCATION/klinecreek.html

Kline Creek Farm is a 1890s DuPage County working farm nestled on 1,110 acres in the Timber Ridge Forest Preserve.  The farm provides visitors with a unique glimpse into history.  The area has a house, barn, animals, garden and numerous educational activities that educate visitors about the life of farming in the 1890s.

Visit the web-site provided above for details about the educational programs and specifics about the farm.  The day we visited, interpreters were showing us how women baked cakes.  What a tough job!  No mix masters or convenient box mixes.

klinecreekhamilton.JPG (15475 bytes)We wanted to share a few photos from our visit. As you will see, there are many sites to enjoy when visiting Kline Creek Farm.   If you are in the area, make sure and stop by.

Melissa Hamilton discovered she appreciates the conveniences of the 21st century after visiting Kline Creek Farm!

klinecreekcow.JPG (32162 bytes)Animals are an integral part of a farm.  At the time of our visit earlier this Spring, we enjoy watching the animals.  This is a wonderful opportunity for children to get a close look at how animals live on a farm.

Horses fulfilled an important role on farms.  The fellow in this photograph is taking a break from his work!

Farm life was hard work for families.  The ladies in the lower right photograph are tending to the garden.  The main house is just behind the two ladies.
