Amy was embarrassed by the attention and brushed it off by saying that the job was taking its toll so late in the year. Her health had been a bit rocky and that her love-life was following its usual disastrous pattern. She begged him to think no more of it and still rather unsatisfied, he returned to his seat and planned his meeting in New York. He had three days in New York and then a side trip to Chicago then found himself back in Los Angeles and waiting in the lounge to be called for the Auckland flight. He saw the flight crew pass through the gate and noted that Amy was to be one of his cabin attendants for the flight. He hoped that she was feeling better. High over the Pacific and all was quiet and Amy came quietly and sat beside him in the vacant seat. He told her that she was looking a little better but still rather tired and was alarmed when she burst into tears and mopped her eyes with a tissue. He took her hand and tried to comfort her and through her quiet distress he learned that she had been carrying a torch for a certain airline captain in the airline. The man had led her to believe he was interested in her and there was talk of going on a date together at one of the stopovers. Amy had her hopes raised but the invitation never quite arrived. It was on the flight in September that one of her co-attendants finally told her that the man was married. He was always after easy conquests and had had affairs with several of the hostesses before. Amy had been horrified. She had been conservatively brought up, and the thought of an affair with a married man was anathema to her and she could not believe how she could have been so led on and deceived. Worse, she still had feelings for the man that would not go away. She was both angry and miserable and unable to get him out of her mind. JJ told her that he was no great expert on relationships but thought that she had done the right thing by walking away from the situation. Married men rarely left their comfortable marriages for a bit on the side, and he thought that Amy was far too beautiful and nice to allow herself to be put in that category. He understood her hurt and how it felt to love someone and not have the love returned. His own situation had become a sadness to him, in that the girl of his dreams didn’t seem to know that he loved her. They were mostly apart, and he hadn’t the words to tell her how he was feeling. Amy imagined a girl, perhaps in New York, that JJ got to see only on his travels here and could see how it must feel like. She commiserated and they agreed to update each other the next time they both flew the route. ♥♥♥♥♥♥ J.J. & Amy -3 >>>(Continue) |
