Despite Janet’s busy schedule, she finds great satisfaction with her work with the Red Feather Development Group. After meeting the organization’s founder, Robert Young, she knew she had connected with a grass roots organization that provides a marvelous service to Native Americans. The Red Feather Development Group fulfills her "desire to get involved, and to give back because I’ve been given so much." The primary thrust of the organization is providing a sustainable housing initiative for Native Americans. (For more information, see www.redfeather.org). Janet has worked to "build bale homes and community buildings on reservations in the northern plains." She has also "participated as a board member in efforts to establish tribal based educational centers that empower tribal members for the building of their own structures." Following Your Dreams
I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Janet Smith. It is always exciting to meet women who are passionate about their work and reach out to make a difference in the sphere of their influence. The Hozhoni Gallery is one of the special ways that Janet can share the beauty and unique culture of Native Americans. At the same time, Janet inspires others by her enthusiasm and passion to fulfill her dreams. When you are in the Naperville, Illinois area, make sure and make the Hozhoni Gallery one of your stops. At the least, visit the Hozhoni Gallery web site at www.hozhonigallery.com to view photos of unique pieces and interesting biographies on the talented artists the gallery patrons. Janet Smith has given something special to Naperville via the Hozhoni Gallery. The community is delighted she opened her gallery here!
