Wedding Traditions:
Flowers: An Unspoken Symbol

Arf50076.jpg (20672 bytes)Bridal bouquets have been a part of the wedding tradition since before flowers were used.  In fact, brides in ancient times would carry bouquets of grains, herbs, and garlic for several reasons.  It was believed these bouquets dispelled the presence of evil spirits and assured fertility.

The flowers selected by brides today are as numerous and varied as their colors, textures, and symbols. Each flower represents or symbolizes a characteristic or meaning.  When you are selecting flowers for your wedding or in attendance, keep in mind the unspoken symbol that the selected flowers represent.

How many flower symbols do you know?

FLOWER MEANING
Aster Loyalty
Baby's Breath Innocence
Daffodil Respect
Ivy Fidelity
Lavender Sweet memories
Lily Purity
Orchid Fertility
Rose Love
Sunflower Happiness
White Violet Opportunity

The shades and scents of flowers enhance the experience shared by a bride and groom on their wedding day.  The tradition of flowers and their symbolic meaning can be enjoyed and appreciated in the modern wedding.
