Elizabeth I had been hailed "Gloriana" the imperial virgin of classical myth, "the phoenix of the world."

This Lady provides a good example of how feathers
were used to decorate a Lady’s hat.

These Ladies of the Court provide a sampling of other types of head attire worn by the upper class Elizabethan.

Parade Women.jpg (66751 bytes)

Ladies of the Court waving at the subjects of the Realm. The variety of gowns reflects the diversity in color, style, and fashion.

Parade Men.jpg (54188 bytes)
Although the fashion discussion focuses on the Ladies of the Queen’s Court, these gentlemen provide examples of breeches and stockings (venetians) and the Copotain hat.

(We had to include this photo!)

This nobleman's cape was gorgeous.  The photo doesn't do it justice.  It was made of fine velvet and decorated in gold and tiny jewels.
