Tales - U.S. Civil War
Facts About the
Civil War
When
we study history, there are always facts that help us build a strong foundation
of knowledge. We have itemized a variety of facts for you to peruse.
Certainly, it is not necessary to memorize the bits and pieces we have
provided. However, a working recollection will enhance your historical
romance reading experience. Plots, adventure and romance are an enjoyable
part of fiction, but it's fun to see how much we know of the realities of where
the characters are living their lives.

The State Breakdown
Nearly 31 million people lived in
America at the time of the Civil War. (The population in the U.S. at the
beginning of the 21st century was 300 million!). Approximately 21 million
lived in the states that remained in the Union. The remaining 9 million or
so followed Southern succession.
The breakdown of states or
territories within America fell into four distinct categories: Union
States, Border states, Confederate States and the Territories.

slave states) |
