"Bristol Renaissance Faire"

Excitement of the Joust

The joust performed at the Bristol Renaissance Faire was exciting to watch, particularly observing the skill of the horsemen.

For the viewer, you could imagine what a medieval period joust must have been like. The power and speed of the animals, the exhaustive training of the knights to perform the dangerous activities required on the field, and the energy generated by the shouts of the audience.

Below are a few photos of the knights in action at the Faire.  These men did a fine job and won the admiration of all the spectators.

Renaissance Faire Joust 1.jpg (55674 bytes)One display of skill was capturing a ring with the end of the lance while their squires held it aloft.  Each knight never missed!

Renaissance Faire Joust 2.jpg (61101 bytes)The three knights ride with lances outstretched.  In their colors and helmets, the knights thundered past the audience.  Cheers erupted!

Two knights display their skill with the sword.  It's amazing to watch the knights maintain their balance.

Renaissance Faire Joust 5.jpg (48626 bytes)The audience anxiously watched while the knights rode at a full gallop toward each other.  Lances were raised as each targeted their opponent's shield.  The crunch and snap of the lance against a shield was quickly followed by "hurrahs" from the audience.

The colors worn by this knight were beautiful.  The crimson red contrasted against the rich blue.  Note the red and blue "socks" on the knight's horse.

This photo provides a nice example of the chain mail worn to protect a knight's head.
