Genre:
Fantasy, Historical, Contemporary
Meet Elysa Hendricks Christmas Eve 1989 I sat down to write a short contemporary romance. When my heroine turned out to be a winged, telepathic stowaway, I realized that my writing career was destined to go in a different direction. Since I grew up reading Asimov and Heinlein, as well
as watching Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers along with
Twilight Zone and Outer Limits, it's not surprising
that fantasy and science fiction are deeply ingrained in my
soul. Kathleen Woodiwiss, Fern Michaels, and Rosemary Rogers along with
many others supplied the romance.
I finished the first draft of that book in three months, then joined Romance Writers of America and proceeded to spent the next several years learning how to write. Now my alien stowaway story sits under my desk and serves as a foot rest, probably never to see the light of day. But I don't regret the time I took writing, re-writing, revising and editing it. I learned the art and craft of writing on that book. And at the same time I started and completed two other novels, western historicals. What 3 things do I enjoy about writing in my subgenre? My love of fiction isn't limited to the futuristic, fantasy or paranormal sub-genres. I also enjoy writing historical and contemporary tales of love. Stories come to me in dreams and daydreams. Then I craft the setting to fit the characters and plot. Some stories demand a futuristic,
fantasy or paranormal setting. Publishing Credits Since I started writing, I've written three fantasy romances, two are available from ImaJinn Books. GEMINI MOON and CRYSTAL MOON. The third, SHADOW MOON, is due for release the end of this year. I've also written a western historical romance. RAWHIDE SURRENDER is published both electronically and in print through Hard Shell Word Factory. All of my books have garnered writing awards from both other writers and readers.
Becoming a published author is a dream come true for me, but my true joy comes from immersing myself in the lives and loves of my heroes and heroines. You can find excerpts from my published books on my web site: http://www.geminimoon.orgProfessional Associations & Presentations I joined Romance Writers of America in 1990 and in 1991. I helped found the Windy City and the Futuristic, Fantasy & Paranormals chapters. I have spoken at numerous chapter conferences and taught workshops on world building at a local college. Romance Author Interview "I don't choose the sub-genre, my plot and characters do that for me. Each story demands its own time and place....I like conflicts that involve action and adventure, that pit the hero and heroine against one another, but force them to work together to solve their problems."Discover more about Elysa in her
