Tell us about your book "Romancing the Soul."

What the book is about?

"Romancing the Soul" brings together sixty beautiful and compelling stories from people all over the world who have found their soul mates. From karmic soul mates to twin souls, these powerful and heartwarming stories will not only mystify you, they’ll make a believer out of you. If anyone doubts they have a soul mate out there for them, they won’t have any doubts at all after reading this book. Soul mates are alive, well and just looking for the right time to enter your life.

What gave you the idea for the book?

The idea to put together a book of soul mate stories came in your not so normal way. After my twin soul died, I had a dream where I heard his voice and that voice was telling me to tell the world our story, but not only that, tell the stories of others. Let the world know what the soul mate relationship is all about. I got up in the middle of the night and wrote everything down that was told to me and went back to bed. I got up the next morning and thought it was all a dream. It was a dream, but the words in my file I had set up the night before was real. Even the title was given to me by my twin soul. Never, ever doubt that loved ones go away after they die. They come into your life one way or another and this was one way that changed my life, and my vocation, forever.

How did you conduct your research? Interviews? E-mail submissions?

That very next morning, I put out a call for stories. I posted in writing groups and message boards. I told anyone who would listen that I was putting together a book of soul mate stories and if they had one they’d like to share, I was going to listen.

Usually, when I write a non-fiction book such as this, I opt for the interview route. This time, I just placed an ad wherever I could and asked if anyone had met their soul mate and wanted to talk about it, to send me their submission and I would take a look at it. If their submission passed the goosebumps test, they were in. I ended up with almost sixty stories. I had to turn only a few away.

Most people knew what I wanted. If you’re in a soul mate relationship, you know it, but you’d be amazed how many people out there don’t have a clue as to what it’s all about. These stories show these people what it’s all about and by using these stories as examples, they can look into their own lives and identify quite a few soul mates. I’ve had people come up to me and say that they had never realized we have three kinds of soul mates and by learning this and by reading the stories in the individualized sections, they realized not only who their soul mates were, but for what purpose they came into their lives. Pretty neat, huh?

What surprised you (or what did you learn about yourself and the subject) when you finished the book?

I pretty well knew what soul mates were all about by that point, so there was nothing that surprised me on that end. What did surprise me was the hard work behind it and that one person cannot do it all and do it well enough to satisfy everyone.

When putting an anthology together of this kind, and with this many people involved, there are going to be mistakes. Lost books, books that were promised and never arrived. Believe me, it’s happened. This really is too huge a project for one person, but I got through it and now have a wonderful book to prove a point – that soul mates exist. But, if someone were to come up to me and ask me if they should do the same, I would tell them the truth – that it is a lot of hard work and that you have to be really devoted or it’s going to fall through.

The Chicken Soup books do well because they are staffed. You are not. And, something is going to suffer. I had one woman who berated me for not sending her anthology in time. I had sixty books to get out and it was a time trying to get them sent out. Some of the books had to go out of the country which added even more to the cost. If you are going to do a project this size, make sure you have the funds to do it. Believe me, I know. But, it was worth it after the dust had settled. The book is doing real well and it’s something I can be proud of. More importantly, it gets my message out and once people understand the message, they learn the right way and the wrong way to approach the soul mate relationship.
