Thought of the Week: December 8, 2002

Principle #10: Cards & More Cards

The holiday season is the time we send out Christmas cards and letters to friends and family.  The benefit to this tradition is it also provides us the opportunity to touch base with some of our long-time friends from college or youth that we don't communicate with on a regular basis.

Don't let the task of sending cards overwhelm you.  For the seasoned card sender, you already know the tricks of the trade.  Just keep in mind this is a blessed season to renew connections with the people we care about.

Technology Saves the Day!

Envelopes

There are those who still prefer to address envelopes by hand.  Calligraphy is also a popular form that creates works of art on an envelope.  For the ambitious and creative, we salute you!  Certainly, your friends and family anxiously await the beautiful attention you give to each envelope.

For the other group of ladies who need technology to get the envelopes done, you're not selling yourself short.  The fonts, colors, and options for printing envelopes or printing labels is varied.  A wide range of clip art is also available to dress up an envelope.

The benefit of technology, too, is maintaining the database of recipients with addresses and comments.  Updates can be entered and the merge document prepared.  It can be as quick as 1-2-3.

Letters

Writing letters is the fun part of sending out our best wishes to friends and family.  Purchase some paper with a lovely Christmas scene or graphic and write away.

Recommendation:  Make sure and save your Christmas letter each year.  These letters are a fantastic history of your family for years to come.  We know of some families whose letters go back nearly 30 years.  What a legacy for your children!

Christmas Quotation

If you haven't done this before, include a short Christmas poem or quotation with your letter or as a separate enclosure in your envelope.  Special words can bring a word of comfort, cheer, and blessing to those who receive it.
