Thought of the Week: December 22, 2002

Principle #12:  The Little Things Make a Big Difference

Bqa50026.jpg (27478 bytes)The week of Christmas can be the busiest time of the entire season.  You are making last minute touches to your house, cooking, shopping, and attending various functions.  During this time, it's important to remember that the little things make a big difference on the outcome of Christmas Eve and Day!

The Aftermath of Presents

If you don't already do this, make sure you have a garbage bag handy for those discarded wrappings.  Picking up piles of torn wrapping paper can be a chore.  Toss as you open packages and your room will stay neat with no big mess at the end.  Also, if you like to keep the pretty bows and elegant ribbons for next year, have a box ready to collect these delicates so they aren't smashed in all the excitement.

A Fire Would Be Lovely

When you live in colder areas, it's your opportunity to take advantage of building a fire in the fireplace!  It is incredible how a small fire changes the ambience of a room from "nice" to "fantastic."  The warmth of the flames, the sound of crackling embers, and the vibrant flash of dancing gold is delightful.

Tasty Treats Within Reach

Put out a selection of candies, cookies, and/or mints in the front hall, corner table or living room.  A treat is always a nice idea for guests to enjoy before or after a meal or buffet.

Always Be Prepared

Always, always be prepared for the unexpected.  Take along a small bag and leave it in your car should you need something.  These items can include: extra batteries for the flash on your camera, extra film, diapers, bottles, aspirin, hosiery, and even something to take for an upset stomach.  The smallest inconvenience can become a big annoyance if you don't have it!

Embrace the Day!

Reach out with your heart and soul for the holiday.  Embrace the moment and take in every nuance of the day.  This is the time for giving and appreciating friendships and family.
