I have read Jane Austin's 'Pride and Prejudice', since I was a child. She was an extremely talented author, weaving a story with characters that really added to the enjoyment of the book.

This love story between two people from different backgrounds and personalities are a joy to read. Adding to the mixture are interesting characters that would have made it otherwise just another romance story. My favorite characters besides Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth are, Mrs. Bennet, Lydia, Mr. Collins and Mr. Wickham.

Mrs. Bennet's nervous episodes, her lack of discretion when speaking her mind and discord with her husband, and occasionally Elizabeth, gives the story an added ingredient to make this story fun to read. Lydia's brainless chatter and careless manners cause Elizabeth embarrassment, even though her father is more amused than scandalized by it. This story would not be interesting without her.

Mr. Collins character, a clergyman, is a pompous and conceited man who caters to the attentions of Lady Catherine DeBourgh. Because of the attention and favors he receives from this great lady, he thinks of himself as among the very honored. His behavior and manners make him look ridiculous and idiotic. It's hard not to smile at his stupidity and manners.

Mr. Wickham, whose convincing charm and falsehoods, fool everyone around him, including Elizabeth, add another interesting ingredient that is necessary to make this story good. Mr. Wickham's character is first admired and then despised by Elizabeth. At the end, she is forced to reconcile to the fact that since Mr. Wickham is married to her sister, she has to accept him as family.

All these great characters add to the spice of this story. Without the special ingredients these people add, it would leave Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth without much to overcome and the path of true love would have been too dull to read. Together, all these characters make this story interesting and amusing. This book is definitely a keeper.
