Meet Autumn McCullah

I have been an avid reader since grade school, devouring books from all genres. For years I’ve had these story ideas brewing in my mind and, while I did put some of the stories down on paper, I didn’t get serious about the writing until several years ago.

I joined some reader groups that gave me wonderful positive feedback, which encouraged me to get published. Something that surprised me on this writing adventure is the marvelous learning process that it generates. In creating characters and settings, I’m learning so much about people, places, animals, flora and fauna, human nature and what drives them. It’s fascinating! The first paragraph of a story is the most difficult. But when you type the last one, there is a tremendous sense of accomplishment that you have taken your characters on a trip of discovery to a happy ending.

What three things do you enjoy about writing in your sub-genre?

There is great joy and excitement in creating characters that come alive in the setting I provide for them. Because I believe most people read to escape for a while to another world, my heroes have large homes, are wealthy and have a great deal to offer their ladies. My heroines are smart, have careers or can be stay at home mothers. I can create antagonists who drive sporty cars and are selfish or as nasty as I need them to be. And I love happy endings. It’s also a challenge to create your own towns, which I have done in Bentridge Magic and in Daring To Dream.

I love the research that goes into a contemporary romance novel. The town or city might be fictional, but I need to know as much about the part of the state in which I’ve set my story.

Romance Author Interview

"...romance is centered on two intelligent people who may or may not be attracted to each other in the beginning. The tale of the discovery of their attraction and growing love is timeless."
