Interview Ashley Drye Suite 101 Poetry.JPG (28965 bytes)What do you enjoy about writing poetry?

I love writing poetry because I am able to express any feelings that are built up inside me.  Poetry can bring a person into a world where only the poet dwells, and the poet is able to mold this world into any one that they desire.

Why is poetry important?

Poetry is important because it creates a safe haven for whoever reads it.  No matter what is going on in that person's life, it they read a poem, they can detach themselves and really find a safe environment there.

You discuss in an article on www.suite101.com about poetry as a form of communication.  Can you share your thoughts about how poetry is a form of communication?

Many people are unable to share deep feelings, and for some, poetry is the only way that they can.  I find that poetry can really help anyone.  Poetry helped me a lot through my parent's divorce, and I found that the only way to express the deepest emotions, would be through poetry, and this really helped me heal.
