In Europe, the generally accepted Romanticism Art Movement spans the late 18th
to mid 19th century. It is described as "anti-Classicism; a
reaction against neoclassicism and as a deeply-felt style which is
individualistic, beautiful, exotic, and emotionally wrought". We have chosen 10 paintings from our selected catalogue. A word of explanation for each painting gives an insight into why they have been included in the list: 1. Gustav Klimt, The Kiss http://www.arts-studio.com/shopinfo/uploads/965983865_small-image_as.jpg This is our best selling painting. A man, kneeling over and kissing his love swathed in gold on a bed of flowers. We are the only company who completes this reproduction oil painting using real gold paint and gold leaf relief. This particular canvas is often ordered as a Wedding gift or as a token of love. 2. Gerhardt Richer, Woman Descending a Staircase This powerful image of Maria Callas descending a staircase speaks volumes. Wouldn’t we all like to re-write the script of her life and imagine that Aristotle Onassis it waiting for her at the bottom? 3. Tamara de Lempicka. La Dormeuse (Sleeping Woman) http://www.arts-studio.com/shopinfo/uploads/1082940323_small-image_tdlladormsmall.jpg Selecting a reproduction oil painting by Tamara de Lempicka leaves us spoiled for choice as so many fit the criterion. The obvious choice is probably Adam and Eve, but we have chosen La Dormeuse. 4. Mary Stevenson Cassatt, Breakfast in Bed 1897 http://www.arts-studio.com/shopinfo/uploads/1076744274_small-image_marycassattvreakbedsdm.jpg The tender love of a mother for her child. 5. Pierre Auguste Renoir, Summer Landscape 1873 Summer flowers and a walk through the meadows delightful captured by Renoir. 6. Lord Frederic Leighton: Flaming June An explosion of color and abandonment depicting a young woman sleeping in brilliant sunlight. 7. Pablo Picasso – Boy with a Pipe 1905 In May 2004 Picasso’s adolescent boy holding a pipe fetched all-time record price at auction in New York of US$104 million. Described as one of the most beautiful of Picasso’s Rose Period paintings and one of the most important early works by Pablo Picasso 8. Jack Vettriano – Dance Me to the End of Love http://www.arts-studio.com/shopinfo/uploads/1030606664_small-image_jvetdnclovesm.jpg Admired and derided in equal measure by the critics, Jack Vettriano’s art has become the most commercial of the past decade. 9. James Tissot- The Dreamer (Summer Evening) http://www.arts-studio.com/shopinfo/uploads/1108021875_small-image_jtissotsumevesm.jpg An all time favorite and with echos of La Dormeuse and Flaming June. 10. Georgia O’Keeffe – a Blackbird with Snow Covered Hills 1946 http://www.arts-studio.com/shopinfo/uploads/1099098913_small-image_gokblackbirdsnowsm.jpg A solitary bird flying over snow covered hills; displaying an emphasis on the simplest aspects of shapes creating a surrealistic dynamic that is captivating.
