Quotes & Poetry

Thought of the Week: April 6, 2003

"The only way to receive abundantly is to give abundantly."
Peter Megargee Brown

The theme we will be following for the next series of articles is basically that love always takes maintenance.  We selected the quotation by Brown because love is truly about receiving and giving.  There are many ways, whether large or small, that you can give and receive abundantly.

Knowing Your Partner

As we spend more time with our partner, we learn information, charactertics, likes and dislikes about him.  These experiences and qualities are unique to him.  One way that we can enhance our relationship with our mate is to remember what makes our loved one happy.  Do you know your mate's favorite flavor ice cream?  What time of year does your partner favor?

Consider Your Partner's Preferences

We have provided a list of some of the myriad of items that you should know regarding your partner's thoughts, preferences and/or likes.  It's amazing how we take for granted the bits and pieces we know about our loved one.  If you don't know the answer, find out.

What is your partner's favorite cologne? What is your partner's greatest fear?
What does your partner like to read? What does your partner enjoy doing in his spare time?
What type of music does your partner like to listen to. What is your partner's favorite color?
What is your partner's dream vacation? Do you know your partner's most cherished memory from childhood?
Is your partner a spiritual individual?  If so, what are his beliefs? What did your partner like/dislike about his last job (position)?
What is your partner's favorite meal or food? Where in life does your partner want to be in 10 years?

Getting to know your partner means giving and receiving abundantly with interactive communication. The better we know each other, the less likely that miscommunication can occur.

We encourage you to invite your partner to do the same exercise, that is, get to know the details about you.  It can be an enjoyable and enlightening experience.
