Once again, how we treat our mate by what we say and do will influence his/her self-concept. As much as we attempt to ignore a negative comment from a mate, deep down negative statements can take root. Daily Positive Reinforcement Most motivational speakers will advise their listeners that positive reinforcement is critical to a strong self-concept. Taking the time to say a kind word or statement of support to your mate benefits your relationship in numerous ways. *Keeps the
communication channels clear Daily positive reinforcement can be done in the small things. A simple, "dinner was delicious" is surely appreciated. Perhaps say, "you look handsome today" before he leaves for work. When we verbally acknowledge to our loved one what we admire about him (physical, mental, and spiritual), they know we truly care.
