The Civil War:
Through the Eyes of Heather Graham -Part 2

Witness a Civil War Battle

Visit The Civil War - A Re-enactment to witness a Civil War battle and view a photo gallery of soldiers, accessories of war and uniforms.

n this second installment on the American Civil War, I will be covering three books by Heather Graham entitled One Wore Gray, Glory, and Triumph. One Wore Gray is the continuation of the Cameron family saga. Glory and Triumph are the last two books in the series based on the McKenzie family.

I am including a segment on Thomas Stonewall Jackson beginning with his birth and ending with his death after being wounded in the The Battle of Chancellorsville. I have also written a short synopsis of the Battle of Chancellorsville and The Battle of Gettysburg. Photographs of the battle site and the building at Guinea Station, Virginia where Jackson died as well as the Chancellorsville and Gettysburg battle sites will give you a feeling for the lay of the land at these sites.

The final segment of this second installment concludes the article on Varina Davis, wife of Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy. This segment will cover the years after their marriage and shortly after the end of the Civil War.

You may want to read my first article for reviews on the three previous books in each series on the Camerons and the McKenzies. You will be able to read the first part of the article on Varina Davis which covers her childhood, courtship and marriage to Jefferson Davis. Also included in the first article is a short description on the Battle of First Bull Run (also known as the First Battle of Manassas). The article on Rose O’Neal Greenhow, a Confederate spy, explains why she is credited with the Confederate’s victory of the First Battle of Bull Run.

Unfortunately, when a war is over there is grieving over loss of life, property and pride. It sometimes takes people many years to overcome their losses and begin to move on. Following the review of the three books discussed above, I will give you a brief review of several books based on the time immediately after the war (also known as "The Reconstruction Period") and going forward several years.  (These books written by Heather Graham, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, and Allie Shaw are discussed in The Civil War: Through the Eyes of Heather Graham-7).

I hope you enjoy this second part of this two part series. In my final thoughts (The Civil War-Through the Eyes of Heather Graham-8), I have covered some of the difficulties during "The Reconstruction" period including the effects of President Lincoln’s death and how some of the generals and officers rebuilt their own lives. I appreciate the work, thought and creativity Heather Graham put into these 12 books. They have given me so much reading enjoyment and inspired me to expand my knowledge and interest in the important historical events covered in these books.
