Skating for Entertainment
By 1876, the production of artificial ice had been developed. Indoor rinks soon began to appear. Ice skating was no longer restricted to the winter season. This provided an opportunity for professional skating events. The first such performance occurred in New York's Madison Square Garden in 1879.
