Thought of the Week: November 10, 2002

Principle #6: When it comes to the holidays,
finish your shopping early!

Bqa50049.jpg (81219 bytes)Shopping during the holidays can be a joy.  Viewing the festive decor, enjoying Christmas music, selecting a special holiday sweater, and eating the goodies that only come with the holidays is great fun.

The problem that many of us encounter is procrastination.  Do you save your shopping until the last minute?  If you choose to complete your shopping at the "eleventh hour," you may bring undue stress upon yourself.

Make a List

This recommendation almost goes without saying.  However, we wanted to mention it anyway.  We confess that sometimes the right gift presents itself at unexpected moments.  In general, it is a good idea to plan ahead.  Your shopping time will be an efficient and productive outing.Bpx50014.jpg (85449 bytes)

Perhaps you prefer shopping late in the season to get the "good deals."  If you are the consummate bargain hunter, that is fine.  Plan your schedule to accommodate your last minute shopping.

Take Advantage of Gift Wrap

The holidays is the time to utilize free gift wrap offers.  Major department stores may offer this service.  Take advantage of it!  The staff typically do a wonderful job, and it will save you from wrapping one or more of your gifts.

Make Time for a Treat

We just had to sneak in this suggestion.  No shopping exhibition is complete without a stop to the candy store, cookie shop, or coffee shop for hot chocolate (with whip cream).  Whether you are shopping with your children or best friend, take the time for a treat.  A snack gives you a pleasant break and a boost of energy.

Goal for the Week!

If you have not already done so, begin to make your Christmas List.   Consider your strategy, the stores you wish to visit, and any catalog or Internet orders you have to make.  The sooner you finish shopping, the quicker you can settle in to enjoy the holidays!
